  • °BRIX is a measure of plant health and quality. °BRIX (symbol °Bx) is the most common measure for dissolved or soluble solids, in particular, sugar. Urth can measure a plant’s °BRIX by squeezing any part of its sap onto a refractometer and looking at the sample’s refractive index.

    The higher the refractive index °BRIX, the healthier and stronger the plant. And because high °BRIX tissue will produce more alcohol from fermented sugars, higher °BRIX plants are more resistant to the predatory insects that are unable to process them. The function of predatory pests is to remove low °BRIX (unhealthy - poor vigor) plants from the reproductive cycle. Many pests don’t have the equivalent of a pancreas and, therefore, cannot process sugar without risking death from internal fermentation.     Soil organic matter serves as a reservoir of essential nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, sulfur, and micronutrients. As organic matter decomposes, these nutrients are released into the soil solution in forms that plants can readily absorb. This slow and steady nutrient release reduces the risk of nutrient leaching and ensures a more sustained supply of nutrients to crops.

    According to the USDA, increased micbrobial action will increase bioavailability of plant nutrients, increase plant vigor, and release of 20-30lbs of organic Nitrogen, 4-7 lbs of Phosphate, and 2-3 lbs of Sulfur.

  • By reducing high salt, sodium, chlorides, magnesium, and potassium, farms can significantly flocculate (relax) the soil, helping to get water down into the rhizosphere / aerobic zone and eliminating standing water and run off.
