In high-clay soils, calcium displaces sodium and magnesium, which disperse soil particles and pack them tight. Calcium makes clay particles clump into larger aggregates, improving structure, porosity, water infiltration and root penetration. It’s a non-leaching mineral that stays in the soil.

Calcium promotes aggregation, improves infiltration and aeration, and stabilizes organic matter. The soil becomes easier to work, with better seedbeds and root growth.

Calcium builds the pectin that holds cell walls together. Strong walls mean better immunity. It also helps balance electrical conductivity and reduce pathogenic nematode pressure.

Calcium acts as a cofactor and signaling molecule, switching on enzymes involved in growth, development and stress response. It improves uptake and transport of other nutrients and helps plants tolerate drought, salinity and temperature swings.

Calcium carbonate helps neutralize acidic soils, raising and stabilizing pH for crop growth.

Calcium stimulates root hair growth and structure, improves nutrient uptake efficiency, promotes proper fruit formation and reduces disorders like blossom end rot in tomatoes and peppers. It also helps the soil hold and release nutrients.
